Party outfits for the minimalist fashion lover

Disco glitter ball and party fairy lights strung across ceiling

If you don’t like the glitz of sequins and glamour of glitter, add seasonal interest to your outfits with subtler details like textures, cuts and colours instead. Satin, silk and velvet all look incredible this time of year. Their gorgeous textures whisper grown-up glamour and the fabrics look sumptuous as they catch the twinkling Christmas lights. Wear these textures in a darker colour like navy if you prefer not to be too bold with your fashion choices.

If you love the quiet luxury of a neutral colour palette, use it to your favour by wearing the same shade from head-to-toe in different textures. If black is your go-to colour, how about mixing a short sleeve knitted sweater with a faux leather midi skirt and knee-high suedette boots all in black? Throw an oversized wool coat over the top and you’re good to go!

Layering always helps achieve a ‘styled’ appearance. If your partywear look is low-key with clean lines, you can use jewellery, waistcoats, cardigans and scarves to build up an outfit for added interest. A just-visible shirt collar under a sweater dress with an added belt and gold pendant necklace gives a ‘put together’ look without shouting too loudly for attention.

Sometimes the smallest details are all an outfit needs to achieve a subtly elevated seasonal twist. Look out for buttons featuring semi-precious stones, satin bow details or beaded cuffs. You can also bring the party feeling by wearing a belt with an ornate buckle or shoes that sparkle whilst keeping the other 90% of your outfit minimalist.
